Cha Bum-kun is a retired South Korean football player and coach. He was born on May 22, 1953 in Hwaseong, South Korea. Cha is considered one of the greatest footballers in South Korean history, known for his speed, skill, and scoring ability.
Cha began his professional career with the Korea Professional Soccer League (KPSL) in 1976, playing for the Seoul City Club. He later went on to play for teams such as Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, where he became a fan favorite and earned the nickname "Tscha Bum."
During his time in Germany, Cha won the Bundesliga title with Eintracht Frankfurt in 1980, and also became the first Asian player to score in a European Cup final. He was known for his attacking prowess and scored 98 goals in 308 appearances for the club.
After retirement, Cha transitioned to coaching and managed various clubs in South Korea, including the South Korean national team. He also served as a technical advisor for the Korean Football Association and was instrumental in developing young talent in the country.
